Founded in April 2008 as the La Porte/Deer Park Parents of Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, the Bay Area Autism Group has grown to serve much of the area located south and southeast of Houston including, but not limited to, La Porte, Deer Park, Baytown, Clear Lake, Pasadena, Friendswood, Sheldon, Channelview, and Galena Park. In July 2009, a Board of Directors was appointed and the name was changed to better fit the growing group of members.
To serve the LaPorte, Deer Park, Baytown, Pasadena, and surrounding areas by providing support and hope to families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorders.
*Provide a non-threatening accepting environment in which families of ASD children can share, learn, and grow.
*Create a bridge between ASD families and local community businesses and schools.
*Educate the community while promoting an understanding and tolerance of Autism Spectrum Disorders.
Membership into our organization is free to all those who are or have been involved in the raising of a child with autism. We try to keep every activity and event free to all members, thus the importance of donations of time, facilities, and funding. Without the help of others our organization would not exist.
The Bay Area Autism Group (BAAG) hopes to provide a variety of options to help parents and families dealing with autism. When a diagnosis of autism is received by a family, everything changes. Sometimes those changes lead to families and individuals becoming isolated and cut-off from traditional socialization events. In order to help encourage parents to get out and participate, we've created a point system.
Your family can earn a point each time you volunteer, attend a meeting, event, or mini-group, or donate items. These points are then used in the decision-making process of determining scholarships (student - academic, physical, daycare or group-home), grants for conferences, camp eligibility, etc.
Just look for BAAG items under the CALENDAR tab at the top to find some of the options we've made available to parents. Not only do these specialty meetings, mini-groups, and get-togethers earn families points, they also get you back into the groove of life and living!!
Board of Directors:
The Bay Area Autism Group is governed by a Board of Directors. The Board consists of no less than five elected executive positions and no more than five Board-appointed positions. All decisions made by BAAG are a result of Board action. No individual person on the Board may make solitary decisions with respect to the Bay Area Autism Group.
We do however, welcome any and all suggestions made in writing to the Board. All items put in for review will be placed on the agenda and discussed - no matter how big or small. If you have an item you would like the Board to consider, please feel free to contact any Board Member or submit your item to firstname.lastname@example.org.
All Board members serve the group on a volunteer basis as a service to our members and to our community. Please feel free to contact any one of our members with any concerns, questions, or comments you may have.
